A New Executive Director for the UN Environment Programme

A new Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme confirmed!


Congratulations to Inger Andersen on her confirmation by the UN General Assembly. for the position of Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme. In a note of gratitude for the nomination, Andersen wrote, “At this critical time for the planet and for humankind, environmental stewardship has never been more important”. Andersen serves as the Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). She has international leadership experience with the UN and World Bank. Her expertise is in water, the environment, sustainable development.


The acting Executive Director, Ms. Joyce Msuya of Tanzania, served since November 2018 and ensured a smooth transition.
