Since 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme commemorates World Environment Day on June 5th. This is the day when the first UN Conference on the Human Environment convened in Stockholm, Sweden. Word Environment Day is a celebration seeking to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and encourage broad-based political action.  This year, UNEP  is launching the WED Legacy Project to register activities that have a direct impact on a critical project in the host country of the World Environment Day celebrations – Rwanda. The WED Legacy Project will  focus on protecting gorillas in Rwanda.
